Chapters 7 and 8
In chapter 7, the sisters leave for their cabin in Vimoulenc. This month long vacation is a much needed one because Patty is now 7 1/2 months pregnant. Pattty is having a hard time with this pregnancy because she has to raise it all by herself and she is always moody. Mado reminded her that "It's better to be pregnant than to be dead"(45). By this she means that it's better that she is alive and pregnant than to be dead like their parents. This made Patty really think about how lucky she is. Yes, pregnancy is a hard thing to go through, but there are a lot of worse things that could be happening to her. I think that Patty and Mado will have a tough time raising this child, but what they've learned is that family is all you need, and even though their parnets are dead, the sister's relationship will be all they need to help get them throught tough times.
