Chapters 12-15 were really intense. Patty started to get sick and Mado was worrying
that the baby might be coming early. The biggest problem they would
face with that is that there are no telephones to call a doctor, the
neighbors went back to Denmark, and the nearest town is 8 kilometers
away.Mado was right. The baby was coming and the sisters where really scared. Mado had to deliver the baby herself, and help Patty through it all. Finally, the baby came and is healthy. Mado hitches a ride into town to get baby supplies and when she gets home Patty is exhausted and Mado has to watch the baby. Before Mado
went into town, they talked about getting a doctor. Patty explains that
if they get a doctor, she will be put into a hospital. If the judge
that gave Patty custody ofMado sees that she got pregnant, Mado will
have to live in an orphanage. The sisters decide that it would be
better to just take care of the baby themselves. I don't know quite
know what to expect in the book ahead, but I hope that the baby will be
healthy and the sisters find out a way to get to a doctor. I hope that
the sisters get in touch with the Dutch boys again since they were in
love.
