In the Time of the Butterflies - ch. 11 thoughts
It was hard to read about the Mate's struggles in prison. How the guards treated the women, how the other prisoners treated them, and how the conditions were terrible. I think that it's so unfair that the government took these politicals away and then treated them so poorly just because they disagreed with the government and Trujillo. There were a few things I didn't quite understand. First, did Mate give birth? I didn't understand when the quote said: "Just this- I've either bled a baby or had a period"(240). She was talking earlier about wanting a second child, but I didn't follow if she actually had one or not. Second, I didn't understand what happend when Mate was sent to La 40 to be interrogated. As the plot progresses, I think it's getting more interesting to read, but at the same time, it gets a little bit more confusing.
